Pacific Grove’s architecture, public spaces, and arts community all contribute to the character that makes our city distinctive.

I’d like to see more opportunities to showcase local artists and deepen partnerships with arts organizations and schools.

From a city code perspective, we also have an existing structure to build from.

Pacific Grove’s Municipal Code already provides for a Cultural Arts Commission, although it is not currently active.

One idea would be to modernize the Commission's mandate and reactivate it for today’s Pacific Grove.

A renewed commission could help connect the city with artists and community organizations, identify opportunities for public art and cultural programming, and make it easier for creative ideas to move from conversation to action.

Pacific Grove already has tremendous artistic talent. We should give it even more opportunities to be seen and celebrated.

Americans for the Arts estimated that Monterey County’s nonprofit arts and culture sector generated $284.1 million in economic activity in 2022, including more than $141 million in audience spending.

Arts and culture is not only an important part of our community identity, it's a key contributor to our local economy.
